Rodent Exclusion in North Texas

Sealing the gaps rats and mice use to get inside, from utility penetrations and vents to rooflines and garage door corners, plus trapping to clear out the ones already in.

Rodent exclusion is the work of finding and permanently sealing every entry point rats and mice use to get into a home. A mouse fits through a gap the size of a dime and a rat through one the size of a quarter, so exclusion goes opening by opening across the foundation, rooflines, attic vents, and utility lines.

Buzz Cutters Pest pairs exclusion with trapping. Sealing the house keeps new rodents out, and trapping removes the ones already inside. Entry points are closed with chew-proof materials like galvanized hardware cloth, steel mesh, and metal flashing, not expanding foam alone, which rodents chew straight through.

Buzz Cutters Pest performs this work across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, from Dallas to Fort Worth and the cities in between. See the service area.

What's Included

What a rodent exclusion plan with Buzz Cutters Pest covers.

  • Full exterior and attic inspection for entry points and signs of activity
  • Entry points sealed with hardware cloth, steel mesh, and metal flashing
  • Interior trapping to remove rodents already inside
  • Tamper-resistant exterior bait stations where the property calls for them
  • Follow-up visits to check traps and confirm activity has stopped
  • A written record of every entry point sealed

How It Works

Every job starts with a free on-site evaluation. Here's what to expect.

  1. Inspection

Walk the exterior, roofline, and attic to find every entry point and the signs of activity: droppings, gnaw marks, rub marks, and nesting.

  2. Seal and trap

Close each entry point with chew-proof material and set traps inside to remove the rodents already in the home.

  3. Follow-up

Return to check traps, remove captures, and confirm there is no new activity before the job is closed out.

Pricing

What Affects Your Price

The number of entry points the inspection finds sets most of the price, followed by how hard they are to reach (roofline work takes longer than foundation work) and how many follow-up trap checks the job needs.

Every property gets a free on-site evaluation before anything is quoted. Buzz Cutters Pest puts the quote in writing, explains what drives the number, and holds the price for the work described. No obligation, no contract, no surprise charges after the fact.

Frequently asked questions

Rodent Exclusion: Questions, Answered

Common questions from north Texas homeowners. Don't see yours? Get in touch and a licensed applicator will answer the same day during business hours.

  • Are your applicators licensed?

Yes. Buzz Cutters Pest performs its pest control work under a Texas Structural Pest Control Service license, the state credential Texas law requires for professional pest treatment on homes. Every product and rate is documented after each visit, so you always know what was applied and where.

  • Is your treatment safe for pets and kids?

Yes, with one note: kids and pets should stay off the lawn while applications are still wet (typically two to three hours, sometimes longer in cool weather). Once treatments are dry, the lawn is safe for normal use. We list exactly what was applied after every visit so you always know what's on the property.

  • How much do treatment plans cost?

It depends on the property. Yard size, current condition, grass type, and how many visits the plan needs across the year all move the number, so a quote given over the phone before anyone has seen the lawn is a guess. Buzz Cutters Pest does a free on-site evaluation first, then puts the price in writing. One-time treatments like fire ant knockdown, fungus spot treatment, or a single fertilization are priced per visit. Full plans are priced for the season. Either way there's no contract and no obligation to book after the evaluation.

  • How often do you treat the lawn?

For most lawns on a full treatment plan, we schedule six to eight visits a year, timed to the seasons. Pre-emergent applications happen before spring and fall weed flushes. Fertilization is timed to the grass type. Fungus and pest treatments are added when needed. You get a written calendar at the start of the plan so you know what's coming and when.

  • Where do you service?

Buzz Cutters Pest serves the entire Dallas-Fort Worth metro, including Dallas, Fort Worth, and the cities around them, with crews based in Colleyville. The service area page lists many of the cities by name, but it is not the full list. If you are anywhere in DFW, call or request a quote and we will get you on the schedule.

  • Do you offer organic or natural treatments?

We can build plans that prioritize lower-impact products: corn gluten meal as a natural pre-emergent, beneficial nematodes for grub control, organic fertilizers, microbial soil amendments. Full organic isn't always realistic for active infestations (fire ants, severe fungus), so we'll be honest about what's possible and what the tradeoffs are.

  • What if the treatment doesn't work?

If a treatment we applied doesn't deliver, we come back and re-treat at no additional cost. Fire ant treatments include a re-treatment window. Weed and fungus treatments come with a check-back to confirm results. We'd rather earn the repeat business by getting it right than collect once and disappear.

  • How does mosquito control work?

Mosquito treatment runs as a seasonal plan, roughly March through October, with applications timed to keep populations down before they spike. Buzz Cutters Pest treats the harborage areas where mosquitoes actually rest during the day: shrubs, fence lines, the underside of decks, dense foliage, and shaded turf. Standing water around the property gets flagged so it can be drained or treated separately. Heavy rain washes treatments off, so the schedule includes re-treatment after sustained storms at no extra charge.

  • What does general pest control cover?

The standard plan handles the common household pests in north Texas: ants, roaches, spiders, silverfish, earwigs, crickets, and the occasional invaders that show up when the weather shifts. Most of the work happens on the exterior, with a perimeter band around the foundation, treatment of door and window frames, and harborage spots like garages and storage areas, so pests are stopped before they get inside. Interior application is targeted to active problem areas (kitchens, bathrooms, garages) rather than blanket-spraying baseboards.

  • Do you handle rodents, scorpions, and wasps?

Yes. Rodent work is exclusion-first: Buzz Cutters Pest seals the entry points (gaps around utility penetrations, vents, garage door corners) and adds tamper-resistant bait stations or interior traps as needed. If rodents have already nested in the attic, attic remediation cleans out the droppings and contaminated insulation afterward. Scorpion work targets the perimeter, dense ground cover, and any harborage cleanup the property allows. Wasps and hornets get nest removal plus a residual treatment to discourage rebuilds. Fire ants have their own treatment plan, covered on the fire ant control page.

  • How should I prepare for a pest treatment?

Most of the work is on the exterior, so prep is minimal: keep pets indoors during the visit, move kids' toys and pet bowls away from the foundation, and unlock the gate so the crew can reach the back of the property. For interior treatments, clear counters in the kitchen and bathroom and provide access to under-sink areas. Treatments inside are dry within an hour or two, after which the home is safe for normal use.

  • What is the difference between rodent exclusion and attic remediation?

Rodent exclusion keeps rats and mice out: it seals the entry points and traps the rodents already inside. Attic remediation cleans up after them: it removes droppings, nesting material, and contaminated insulation, sanitizes the attic, and restores the insulation. Most homes with an attic infestation need both, with exclusion first so the cleaned attic stays clean.
